student assignments: PBR Pedestals

For the very first time in their DAE career our 3rd Year students, from the Game Graphics major, got introduced to Physically Based Rendering in the Level Decoration and Design module.


Physically Based Rendering (PBR) is the next generation way of calculating light and materials mathematical measured from the real world. For this assignment they had to make a Pedestal platform built before the 14th century. This time constraint forced them to create old stone, wood and metal materials that need to be physically correct implemented. Not the easiest task out there but the results speak for themselves.


PBR is the latest change of technology used in AAA games like Assassins creed Unity, Tom Clancy’s The Division, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Metal Gear Solid 5,…etc
